The 2018 National Infertility Awareness Week (NIAW) is here, and RRC encourages you to #FliptheScript!
Each year, RESOLVE takes a calendar week to spotlight the topic of infertility, raise awareness and provide a larger support base for individuals and couples struggling with infertility. This year’s theme – #FliptheScript – revolves around the idea that infertility is non-discriminatory, and nothing to be ashamed of:
Anyone can be challenged to have a family. No matter what race, religion, sexuality or economic status you are, infertility doesn’t discriminate.
5 Ways You Can #FliptheScript for Yourself & the Community
Are you inspired to get the word out and raise $$ – and awareness – for a great cause? Here are 5 simple ways you can do it:
1) Take the Pledge
RESOLVE has posted an empowering pledge that they invite you to take on – and share. Even after NIAW is over for this year – we think this pledge is worth posting somewhere visible in your home, personal altar or vision board. Don’t ever miss an opportunity to shine a little light in the dark.
2) Host a Dine-n-Donate
Both chain and locally-owned restaurants are often happy to donate the proceeds from a particular day towards a non-profit charity or organization. These contributions typically range from 10% to 50%, and all diners need to do is show a flyer when they check out. The rest is handled by the restaurant bookkeeper and the event organizer (that’s you!). Donations can be sent in their restaurant’s name if they prefer – which is great publicity for them.
Visit RESOLVE’s Get Local page to read about other local opportunities to #FliptheScript.
3) Participate in a Walk-of-Hope (and start one of your own…)
Currently, there isn’t a KC-based Walk-of-Hope, but there is one in St. Louis. Grab some friends, family, members of your KC infertility support group – and join in with the St. Louis crowd. Then, we encourage you to consider starting one here – joining one of the many DIY Walks-of-Hope that take an actionable approach to awareness raising, empowerment, activism and FUNdraising!
4) Fundraise on Facebook
You’re on there a billion times a day anyway, why not use a bit of that time to use the Facebook Fundraising Option, start a page of your own for NIAW and use @RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association as your nonprofit.
5) Be Social and Share, Share, Share
Social media offers a wealth of quick-and-easy ways to announce your support for NIAW, ranging from downloading official NIAW social media images and adding a Twibbon to your profile pics, to blogging about infertility for yourself. If you’re not up for blogging, why not visit some of our favorite infertility blogs and then like, share, +1 them or send the brave bloggers supportive words of encouragement in their comment boxes.
5) Ask the Boss for a Donation Denim Day
Do you work in a business-dressy environment? See if your boss is willing to trade the professional clothes for a day in exchange for a Donation Denim Day. Employees “pay” to wear denim to work and you send the proceeds to RESOLVE.
