It’s unfortunate, but one of the obstacles to receiving infertility treatment is determining how best to pay for that treatment. The economy is sluggish at best, and companies seem to be peeling back their benefits in an effort to boost the bottom line. Infertility coverage often seems to be a luxury. If you are fortunate enough to be employed at one of the following companies, you are enjoying terrific infertility and adoption benefits. Congratulations! The fact that you know these things are covered (at least in part) alleviates much of the pressure and stress often associated with beginning treatment in the first place. It’s reassuring to know that there are employers out there who see the value in assisting employees as they build their families while leading the way for others to (hopefully) follow.
Conceive Magazine has compiled their annual listing of “50 Best Companies (2010) for Fertility and Adoption Benefits” and we are pleased to share it with you. A sneak peak: appearing at #1 on the list is a small, family-owned construction company in Birmingham, Alabama called Robins & Morton. They offer their nearly 400 employees a health plan (company-paid) that includes unlimited fertility coverage and unlimited fertility prescription drugs! They also offer $10000 in adoption assistance! Talk about an employer that is seriously pro-family!
Still up in the air is what effect, if any, the Obama administration’s healthcare reform will have on infertility benefits/coverage, as nothing seems to be mentioned in the current legislation. The authors of the Conceive article (J. Tamen and A. Alonzo) point out that there is still some hesitancy by some employers, insurers and policymakers to recognize infertility as a disease. Such recognition could affect insurers’ coverage of infertility medical treatment (in a positive way).
At RRC, we know that this is an important, even stressful issue and we will help direct you to the answers you need about your insurance plan and coverage as well as your projected treatment costs. Benefits and coverages vary wildly from company to company, and we can help you determine exactly what it is that you can expect in terms of help from your employer. Upon your first visit to our clinic, you can expect a one-on-one consultation with an in-house insurance expert and/or our office manager, Toni Clark. It is recommended that you check with your insurance company before your consultation appointment to give you a better understanding of your infertility health care benefit. We are dedicated to helping you realize your dreams of building a family, and will do everything we can to help you get there!
