Date Night in KC While TTC

17 May by Erika

date night

An infertility diagnosis means there’s a whole lot of planning, calendaring and goal setting going on. You have to live a healthy lifestyle, keep appointments with the fertility specialist straight, plan vacations around fertility treatments, and so on. In the meantime, there’s a relationship happening in the midst of all this – and no, we don’t meant the one with your fertility specialist. We’re talking about the relationship you have with your partner.

Keep the Romance Alive Even After the Infertility Diagnosis

Remember when you first got together? Things used to be so fun. You relished one another’s company and you built castles in the air that were filled with babies (at least one or two). You used to get a little frisky from time to time, and when you first decided to get pregnant, you did all kinds of exciting things to keep the romance alive while you timed conception at home.

For the first while after a fertility diagnosis is realized, couples unite – bound and determined to forge their way together. That kind of stamina is difficult to uphold though, especially after you’re in year two, three, four and five of fertility treatments. At that point, you need to make a conscious effort to keep romance separate and intertwined through the fertility journey, and date nights are just the ticket.

Romantic Date Night Ideas in Kansas City

Here are some of the romantic things you can do in Kansas City to celebrate the love that bound you together in the first place. And, remember, the first rule of Date Night is, “No talking about anything having to do with infertility or fertility treatments!”

Have an exotic, vacation-worthy zip line adventure

Zip off on exotic vacations. There’s plenty of adventure to be had right here in Kansas City at places like Go Ape. This zip line adventure park will have you rushing through the tree top obstacles the rival those in other countries and locations. In addition to the zip line actions, you can enjoy beautiful walks and hikes on the park’s trails, and dogs are welcome.

They say laughter is the best medicine, and there will be plenty of laughter when you Go Ape! If you’ve envied friends’ and family members’ ability to flit off to international vacation destinations, live on the large side and book yourselves a Romance Package at the Rafael Hotel to put a romantic cap on the day’s adventures.

Experiment with Dim Sum at Bo Lings

Lots of restaurants offer dim sum (a type of Asian small plate) because the idea is trendy right now. At Bo Ling’s, however, you get to enjoy dim sum as it was meant to be enjoyed. While you sit down and enjoy Bo Lings atmosphere and bar concoctions (they’re happy to make a mocktail if you need one), dim sum carts are wheeled by regularly, laden with small plates, bearing tasty Chinese appetizers.

The words dim sum mean “the point of the heart,” so you can keep that in mind as you enjoy a moment, on a much deserved date night, allowing your two hearts to beat as one for a bit. You take plates off the cart to try different things (siu mai (shrimp and pork dumplings), ha gau (shrimp dumpling), roast duck, BBQ roast pork, chicken spring roll, shrimp toast, etc.) and enjoy the ability to have one of everything for a change. You can also order from the Bo Lings award-winning menu.

Get all jazzed up at The Green Lady Lounge

The Green Lady Lounge is an outstanding place to listen to live music – primarily jazz and blues – and enjoy a romantic night out in a dark, barely-lit atmosphere where a little footsies under the table won’t go amiss.

There are several things we love about the Green Lady Lounge (besides the outstanding music): there’s never a cover charge, seating is always open and there are no televisions so you can focus purely on yourselves and the musical talent.

Play some friendly lawn games at The Char Bardate night

Who says romance has to involve candle light and a quiet, hush-hush ambiance? We mentioned above that laughter is the best medicine, and we believe it. Having fun together is a natural way to rekindle the romance, and The Char Bar is a great place to revel in fun.

Not only is the Char Bar a delicious spot to enjoy southern BBQ with a modern twist, afterwards you can head outside to the Beer Garden and do a little tour of their outdoor games, including croquet, bocce ball, ping pong and corn hole. The couple who has fun together stays together, right?

Take a cooking class together at L’École Culinaire

Sometimes, the road to fertility includes shifting and changing the way you look at food. This is especially true for women diagnosed with PCOS or couples who are looking to lose some weight to facilitate their fertility path.

L’École Culinaire is a local culinary school but they have a wide range of cooking classes geared for amateur chefs who want to learn basic cooking skills as well as those ready to tackle the more advanced arts of gourmet cooking. It can be a fun way to work together and learn together, and you can follow it all up with an afternoon stroll along Brush Creek.

Do you have suggestions for keeping the romance alive in the midst of fertility treatments? Have a favorite date night – or date day – routine here in Kansas City? We’d love to hear about it and so would our followers. Leave your ideas in our comment box below.
