This year, RESOLVE’s theme for National Infertility Awareness Week is “#StartAsking!” Last year it was, “You Are Not Alone.” Both themes call attention to the fact that there is a shameful lack of mainstream information and media coverage regarding infertility. When something affects more than 1-in-8 adults, don’t you think it should enjoy a fair amount of attention?
Infertility is often dealt with in a shadowy, underground manner – but this approach makes it very difficult for individuals and couples to access the information they need to make better choices when it comes to building their families.
Join RRC at the 2016 Family Building Conference
Fortunately, widespread coverage about infertility issues – via events like National Infertility Awareness Week (April 24 – 30, 2016) and local coverage, like our own Kansas City Family Building Awareness Conference – are beginning to change that tide.
The conference takes place on Saturday, April 30th at Penn Valley Community College Education Center #109. The event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and while it is FREE, seating is limited so register ASAP if you’d like to attend. The Kansas City Family Building Awareness Conference is hosted by a very special, local non-profit organization called the Kansas City Infertility Awareness Foundation
This is the 6th year the KC IAF team has worked tirelessly to host what has become both Information Hub and Support Group At-Large for those battling infertility in the Kansas City area. We’re excited to be a part of the action and are proud to announce that RRC’s own Dr. Brabec will be speaking about In-Vitro fertilization, using her typical “lighthearted” approach that still manages to cover the in-depth facts and statistics surrounding IVF.
In addition to information about fertility treatment options and IVF, the Family Building Awareness Conference will also cover topics pertaining to:
- Infertility 101
- Natural ways to boost fertility
- Adoption
- The Male Perspective (which covers both men with partners who have diagnosed infertility factor(s) as well as men who have an infertility diagnosis). This is a men-only session but, as the group says, “…don’t worry, we won’t ask you to get all up in your feelings. We are very much aware that most of you would rather attend a session where sports are on the TV and cold beer is on tap!”
- Faith & Infertility
All the while you’ll be sitting next to and among women and men who understand exactly what you are going through!
Support the KC Infertility Awareness Foundation
If you aren’t already familiar with the KC Infertility Awareness Foundation, we highly recommend watching a moving video, posted on their website, which introduces their board and shares compelling, personal stories that hold all of the struggle, hard work, pain, grief and joy that are wrapped up in the typical infertility journey. This is a very special group of women, who have found a much-needed organization. We are so lucky to have them in our community.
RRC looks forward to seeing you at the conference. And of course, as always, you can count on us to assist you with any infertility issues or concerns you may be facing. #StartAsking!
